From very early times scientist trying to classify the earth's climate in terms of pattern. In ancient times, Aristotle classifies the earth climatic region into Temperate, Frigid and Torrid zones. In modern times, during 20th century German botanist and climatologist Wladimir Koppen along with Rudolph Gieger, brought a Koppen system of classification which uses six letters such as A for denoting tropical humid, B for denoting dry, C for mild mid latitude, D for severe mild latitude, E for polar and H for high land. This classification is based on the factors such as average precipitation, humidity and temperature ranges. The each category is subdivided into subcategories. For example, U.S states located along the Gulf of Mexico are designated as CFA indicates this area to be an area of mild latitude with no dry season and having pretty hot summer. In short, we can say that the Koppen system gives us a guide to the earth's general climate.
In today's modern times, human activity has disturbed the ecological balance a lot. Human activities such as the burning of fossil fuels such as coal, petroleum products to fulfill energy needs and emission of greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide and mono oxide along with methane are the main responsible agents to raise the average temperature of the earth. The greenhouse gases trap the sun rays in the atmosphere of earth, these gases along with CFC chloro Floro carbon deplete the ozone layer also. The ozone layer protects the earth's atmosphere from the harmful ultraviolet rays of the sun. Due to the rising of the average temperature, the polar ice of Antarctica and Arctic began to shrink, which cause arose sea level and drowning of areas along with coastal regions.
