Imagine if one could say “I enjoy work”. What if one said, “I really, really enjoy work?” Well I can relate to the person who made that second statement. It sounds like a big call doesn’t it! Well work for me has always been one of enjoyment, learning and fun. I have always felt it a privilege to be working with some of the best peers, bosses, and those reporting to me, over the years in the railway environment. What makes work one of enjoyment? I am sure a lot of it comes from being with those whom you enjoy working with. But it is more than that, it is doing something that builds you up, grows your character and develops your mind. I am sure attitude and knowing the satisfaction you feel in valuing others is also in the mix as well. Maybe my attitude has been one of appreciating what I am doing. The fact that it is me doing it. I have never had a mindset of trying to be someone I am not or envying others doing something that I am not doing. I am pleased for them and I am pleased for what I am achieving. We are all unique but deliver for the big picture. I have always been in awe of what I am doing and appreciate the fact that I have this opportunity. I ensure I grow those I work with, so they become proud of what they do and have the satisfaction they are appreciated.Nevertheless, I have really, really enjoyed work.Hence this book is written to explain some of the more interesting projects I have worked on and what I achieved through them. They include extracts of my working life from some of the many years of working in rail. Also, some of the unusual moments in undertaking this work. I have written these stories based upon some of the positions that I have held over the first fifteen years. However, it does not cover all the roles that I held, nor all the works undertaken in the positions. Works undertaken over this period were both challenging and exciting. There were some very serious and anxious moments on a day to day basis. There were also some moments where either you had no charge over the situation, or it just rose up through from the blue. What does one do then? Well, it is still all part of the job that you are employed for. Some of these situations I have written down in this book for you to enjoy as well.
